Scope of Practice

Dr. Kaveh Khajavi’s practice is focused on the surgical treatment of disorders of the spine, with particular expertise in minimally invasive and complex spine surgery. His goal is not simply to use the least invasive technique, but to select the operation best suited to each patient’s condition and accomplish the goals of surgery with the least disruption to normal anatomy whenever possible.

Spine operations vary considerably in their complexity and in the recovery they require. To make this information easier for patients to understand, the procedures on this website are organized into practical categories ranging from simple or outpatient procedures, through routine inpatient spine surgery, to more complex reconstruction for adult scoliosis and spinal deformity.

The pages in each section explain why a procedure may be recommended, how it is performed, what patients can generally expect during recovery, and, where available, provide links to animations that help illustrate the operation.

These descriptions are intended as educational resources rather than recommendations for any individual patient. The appropriate treatment—and whether surgery is necessary at all—depends on the patient’s symptoms, examination, imaging findings, overall health, and individual goals.
